Opening of Mobile Financial Services (MFS) account using NID
Bangladesh Bank, in collaboration with mobile financial service (MFS) operators such as bKash and Nagad, uses national ID (NID) and birth registration number (BRN)-based electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) for digital account opening. The e-KYC process for MFS account opening involves NID and BRN demographic verification through an API call to the Bangladesh Election Commission, supplemented by OTP authentication, managed by the MFS provider or the Ministry of Finance. The NID-based e-KYC system has significantly reduced the time and cost of onboarding new users, which eliminates the need for physical document submission and in-person verification in many cases.
