Access to loans, subsidies, and insurance by farmers using the national digital ID
Farmers in Southern Africa lack reliable identity systems and accurate land records. This limits their access to subsidies, loans, and insurance. Fraudulent claims divert resources, and farmers struggle to manage climate and price risks.
This use case proposes a digital farmer ID to track financial support for farmers in one place. A digital farmer ID is assigned to each farmer, which provides a unique biometric identity using fingerprints or facial recognition. The system links this ID to a central farmer registry. The database stores key details such as land size, crops, livestock, water use, and yield history.
Based on these verified details, the government and other financial institutions provide support to farmers. The system simplifies access to subsidies, credit, and insurance. It also connects farmers with buyers and cooperatives.
