Student loan auto-repayment via national digital ID and tax integration

Botswana’s student loan system is based on manual checks. Repayment of the loan is also tracked manually. This leads to missed repayments and limits funds for new scholarships. There is no reliable way to determine the employment status or to request repayment.

The use case proposes to link Botswana’s Unified Services Digital ID (BoSDID) to tax identification numbers (TINs). It uses data from the Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) to track employment status. The system detects when a graduate is employed and triggers their loan repayment automatically. The system uses real-time tax data and removes the need for self-reporting.
