Access to telemedicine services by using the national digital ID
Papua New Guinea faces major gaps in healthcare access. Rural communities lack doctors and facilities. Around 87% of rural communities lack regular access to a doctor, with only one doctor per 10,000 people in these areas. Rural residents must travel long distances for basic care.
This use case proposes a national telemedicine platform. Patients consult SevisPass-verified doctors via secure digital channels. The national healthcare authority onboards doctors onto the platform based on their verified qualifications. Patients can book online appointments for a reasonable fee. Doctors issue digitally signed prescriptions that patients can store in SevisWallet and share at the pharmacy through QR codes. The system sends medication reminders linked to patient IDs.
SevisDEx enables secure, consent-based sharing of medical records. The platform also shows nearby verified clinics and facilitates emergency ambulance requests with location and identity details.
