Social media account’s identity verification using the national digital ID
Papua New Guinea faces growing digital safety challenges, such as fake profiles, identity fraud, and online harassment, which are difficult to address because social media platforms do not have reliable user verification mechanisms. Women and public figures face harassment from anonymous or unverified accounts.
This use case proposes SevisPass as the national identity layer for all social media platforms. Users must verify their identity via OTP-based verification of the SevisPass digital ID when they activate an account. Users must verify their existing account. The system uses SevisPass for authentication and SevisDEx for secure verification and real-time checks.
This approach removes fake and anonymous accounts, which creates a safer online environment. The Department of Information and Communications Technology can monitor activity without exposing personal data.
