Digital diploma credentials issuance and verification system using national digital ID

Papua New Guinea faces challenges in verifying the authenticity of educational certificates. These challenges can affect employer confidence and reduce trust in academic credentials. The Department of Education and tertiary institutions currently do not have access to secure digital systems for issuing tamper-proof diploma certificates.

The proposed use case is a business-to-government (B2G) software system designed to address this problem. This system will enable educational institutions to issue digital credentials directly to students’ official SevisPass wallets. The platform serves as a secure backend and enables institutions to act as trusted issuers within the SevisPass ecosystem.

The workflow operates as follows: A registrar at a tertiary institution, or in the Department of Education, logs in with secure credentials and accesses student records to start credential issuance. After graduation, the registrar selects “Issue digital diploma.” The system creates a digitally signed credential and sends it through SevisDEx to the student’s SevisPass wallet. Employers can verify the diploma's authenticity instantly using their credentials through this system.
