Emergency response and public safety reporting using a national digital ID

Certain regions of Papua New Guinea face public safety issues. Slow emergency response and lack of a reliable online incident reporting platform worsen the issue. Women and young people face a higher risk.

The proposed mobile application will provide emergency support and act as a reporting platform. It would integrate SevisPass digital ID to verify individuals and create their profiles with emergency details. The system confirms identity during registration and login through biometric checks. This step prevents fake accounts and reduces false alerts.

When the emergency button on the app is activated, the app overrides the device’s usual phone settings to capture live audio and location. It sends this data to emergency responders, along with the user’s verified identity details.

The system shares only the minimum required information, protecting sensitive data. Users maintain one trusted identity across services such as reporting, safety updates, and emergency support.
