Digital ID-enabled warehouse system to reduce post-harvest loss in agriculture

In recent years, post-harvest losses in Senegal’s agriculture sector have been estimated at 50–70%. These losses force farmers to sell produce at minimal prices to lenders, while consumers struggle to access quality produce at an affordable price

This use case proposes an application that will use a national digital ID-linked storage system to enable farmers to access refrigerated and dry warehouses. Farmers use a national digital ID to create a verified profile on the app. The app displays available storage space in nearby government-owned or government-registered warehouses. Based on estimated harvest volumes, farmers can pay a booking fee to reserve storage space in advance.

Warehouses also offer access to an online marketplace for a service fee, which enables farmers to sell produce when prices are favorable. The use case ensures transparency by requiring all stored food grains to be linked digitally to the farmer’s ID. Warehouses that do not comply face penalties or deregistration.
