Driver's license issuance and motor vehicle registration

Digital ID verifies individuals who apply for driver's licenses and register motor vehicles. The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) operates the Integrated Domestic Revenue Administration System (IDRAS), which includes computerized driver's license and motor vehicle registration systems. During driver's license application through the TRA Taxpayer Portal, applicants must provide their national identification number (NIN) for identity verification against the National Identification Authority (NIDA) database. For motor vehicle registration, the central motor vehicle registration system requires vehicle owners to provide their NIN as part of the ownership details when they complete registration, re-registration, change of ownership, or other vehicle-related transactions.
