ChanjoCovid (COVID-19 vaccination) application

Digital ID verified citizens' identities when they accessed Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination services through the ChanjoCovid portal developed by the Tanzania Ministry of Health. The national identification number (NIN) is one of the accepted identification documents to book vaccination appointments and access vaccination certificates on the platform.

The ChanjoCovid system, a COVID-19-specific instance hosted on Tanzania's District Health Information System (DHIS2), support data collection, reporting, and monitoring of vaccination services nationwide. Citizens could use their NIN to register for vaccination, book appointments at vaccination centers, and retrieve their electronic vaccination certificates that comply with international requirements.

By April 2023, around 38.9 million vaccine doses had been distributed and administered through the ChanjoCovid application, which achieve 51% vaccination coverage of the total population, a dramatic increase from 2.8% in January 2022.
