Registration for National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF)

Digital ID verifies citizens' identities during National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) registration and service access in Tanzania. National identification number (NIN) is required for NHIF registration, whether completed online through the NHIF self-service portal or in person at an NHIF office.

During registration, members must provide their NIN and personal details, such as name, email address, and cell phone number. The system verifies the NIN against the National Identification Authority (NIDA) database to accurately validate identity and prevent fraudulent enrollments.

As of June 2023, NHIF had around 1,368,314 contributing members with about 5 million beneficiaries. NIN integration helps NHIF maintain accurate member records, prevent duplicate registrations, streamline claims processing, and ensure health insurance coverage reaches legitimate beneficiaries across all membership categories.
