Registration for Tax Identification Number (TIN)

Digital ID enables real-time identity validation during tax identification number (TIN) registration through the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Taxpayer Portal. When taxpayers apply for a TIN online, the system authenticates their national identification number (NIN) against the National Identification Authority (NIDA) database to verify identity.

The portal offers two registration pathways: with NIN (for Tanzanian citizens and residents) or without NIN (for foreign nationals who use a passport, driver’s license, voter's ID, or Zanzibar ID). For those with NIN, the system first checks registration status to prevent duplicate TINs, as each individual can have only one TIN. The portal provides 24/7 self-service TIN registration, which eliminates the need for physical office visits in most cases.
