Employees compensation scheme

Digital ID is being integrated to verify worker identities and streamline compensation claims under Nigeria’s Employee Compensation Scheme (ECS). The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) signed an agreement in May 2025 to integrate the national identification number (NIN) database with enrolled workers’ data held under the ECS. The integration seeks to ease verification of workers’ biodata for compensation, improve the accuracy of employee compensation records, reduce fraudulent claims, and strengthen accountability across Nigeria’s workforce. NIN-based verification will enable the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) to seamlessly authenticate the identities of employees, employers, and claimants under the scheme. To date, NSITF has provided death benefits to more than 39,000 workers and disability and retirement benefits to 50,000 others.
