Aadhaar verification in Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examinations

Digital ID is used for multi-stage candidate verification throughout the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examination lifecycle to prevent impersonation and examination fraud. The SSC, in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), launched the voluntary Aadhaar-based authentication system in May 2025. This system uses multiple verification touchpoints. Candidates first complete Aadhaar OTP-based verification during registration on the SSC portal. They then complete Aadhaar face authentication during the examination application. On the test day, they undergo biometric verification, such as fingerprint and iris scan, at the examination center. Finally, selected candidates complete Aadhaar authentication during medical examination and document verification. The SSC conducts recruitment examinations for various Group B and Group C posts in ministries, departments, and organizations of the Government of India, which attract millions of candidates annually. Candidates who appear for the SSC exams from May 2025 can voluntarily opt for Aadhaar verification. The multi-modal Aadhaar authentication system offers several benefits. This system streamlines candidate check-in, reduces manual document verification, and cuts reporting time at examination centers. Biometric matching prevents proxy test-takers and eliminates forged admit cards and identity documents. Real-time authentication against the UIDAI database enhances the integrity of the competitive examination process. The system also supports SSC’s mandate to conduct fair, transparent, and fraud-free examinations for recruitment to central government positions.
